Justin's Birthday Party ... Take 2

We finally were able to have Justin's Birthday Party yesterday!

The weather was ok. We had time to play outside for a while before the rain. And then we were able to get back outside later for the Pinata. All in all, Justin had a great day.

Here are some photos, including the cake I made for him.

Grampy and Justin

Justin has always been a very excitable, very enthusiastic kid. But few things get him more excited than when he gets to help Grampy. When he sees Grampy here, he runs around excited, wanting to help Grampy mow the law or fix something. Tonight Grampy came down to hang our new shades for me. Justin loved it. He got out his toy screw gun and had to finish tightening everything Grampy screwed in. He loved it. As they worked Grampy tonight told Justin "I hope you remember this. I hope you remember me." I hope Justin does too. It would be so sad if he didn't remember. I hope Grampy is around long enough for Justin to remember lots of fun times with him.

Sarah's latest trick

Oh crap! Our lives really just got more difficult. Sarah can now easily climb up the slide in our basement. Crap! The top of the slide unit has 3 places she can fall off of - the slide, the lower rock wall and the stairs.

We used to put Justin and Sarah in the room to play by themselves for a long time. Now we will have to watch her every second she is in the room. Ugh! And the worst part is - she is now obsessed with being up there and doesn't want to play with any of the other toys. Such a pain in the ass.

But - I am proud of her. She is really good at climbing the slide!

Oh, and in other Sarah news - she is really starting to take steps. She doesn't get too far - only 1 or 2 steps, but she is trying often. Go Sarah!

Justin in the newspaper!

We went to the Open House at the Saratoga Race Track on Sunday. It was just a wonderful, wonderful morning! Mick even got Justin to go on a pony ride! Yes, Justin, our Justin who is scared of everything. We were so proud of him.

Here is Justin on Whiskers:

Of course he stopped dead in his tracks when he and Mick started walking towards the bouncey bounces. He wouldn't go anywhere near them. Someday...maybe...oh who am I kidding?

We found a great kid's section that had a wooden horse to brush and sit on, jockey gear to dress up in, and more. When I put Justin on the horse to take his picture, a guy asked if he could take one too. He was from the Saratogian. Sure. Well, sure enough, Justin made the paper! And, I guess the Saratogian and the Troy Record are sister companies b/c he was also in the Troy Record. Yeah Justin! Proud mama that I am, I had to order an 8x10 of the photo. Hey, it was a good photo! And it's not everyday you get such a big picture in the paper.

Afetr the track, we went back to the camp where the kids napped. Then after dinner we had another boat ride. Boy Sarah really enjoys the boat. And Justin is far from scared of the boat the way he was last year. Although he is now scared of the wooden owl that grampy has by the boat to ward off the gulls. LMAO

My life has gotten more difficult

Oh crap..Sarah learned how to climb up onto Justin's car bed. That means she will eventually fall and hurt herself on the hardwood floor. Great fun.

I used to bring Sarah into Justin's room to play with him after nap time. They would play for an hour sometimes while I'd be cooking dinner. It was great. Until now... Now I have to watch her. Ugh. She loves to play in his room. We will find her in there all day playing with his toys. And now we can't trust her in there. Great fun.

Sarah took 2 small steps today from me to the fridge to get to her fridge toys. Eventually....

Justin's songs..

I cannot correct his words for these songs. I just can't.

"Low bridge, everybody down,
you'll always know your neighbors and pal,
if you've ever CANATED on the Erie Canal."

And....

"The farmer in the dell,
the farmer in the dell,
hi ho the FAIRIO,
the farmer in the dell."

Have I mentioned that I love this boy?

Loveys

I love that kids become attached to a lovey.

Justin didn't find his lovey until he was 17 months old. He was sick and he became more attached to his binky. He also found a stuffed animal I had and started to rub it's ears for comfort. Almost 2 yrs later and Justin still loves his pooh bears. He also has found a puppy that he loves too.

Sarah started to become attached to her crocheted blankets about a month or two ago. I always knew she loved her blankies, but now she wants to take them out of her crib. She loves to sleep with them. She loves to sleep with them over her face. She now lifts it up to us when we go to take her out of her crib. Now I am crocheting small little blankets squares for her to carry around. And she loves them!

Trip to NJ

Mick and I went to the Meadowlands to see Bon Jovi last night. It was a great show, of course. But it was also just an experience to people watch. What an amazing array of people.

While we were gone, I called my mom a lot to check in on the kids. She had them nap and then sleep at her house last night. This was a new thing and I was so curious about how it would go. During one of the calls, I found out that Sarah took 2 steps. What? No!! Not while I am not there!!! I told my mom that if she tried it again, she should just push her back down. LOL

Both kids had a great time sleeping at her house and couldn't have cared less that we weren't there. Justin told her he wanted to sleep at her house everynight. LOL

He also told her he didn't want to wear underwear b/c he doesn't want to be a big boy. Ugh!

Visit with the cousins

Our nephews, Kevin and Dante, came up from Florida last week. It was so great for Justin & Sarah to meet them. They are getting so big, it just shows how quick they grow up. Justin had so much fun having them over a lot. After they left, he looked all sad and said "I miss Kevin and Dante." So sweet.

My new favorite thing

Sarah is now saying "hug" when she hugs me. I love it. I ask her for a hug, she comes over to me, and then climbs up, leans into me, and says "hug."

I love my girl!

Words I wasn't expecting

Of course Justin is potty training. And of course we go and wait with him in the bathroom as he goes potty. Last night as we were waiting with him, Justin looked at Mick and said "Daddy, I want to see your hee hee." Ummmm......

Yes, of course he is curious. But I tried to explain that that is daddy's private area and he is supposed to keep it covered.

And Mick wonders why I no longer want Justin to see me naked? LMAO

Personalities

It is amazing that you can have 2 kids who are so different.

I will start by saying that Justin has really spoiled us. He was and is a very happy and fun loving kid. He loves life and loves people. He is easy going most of the time and easy to do things with. (Well...except if you want to take him to church or somewhere where he needs to sit a long time. Forget that. He talks to much - well, almost all the time - and he wants to move around a lot.) He always loved playgroup and never cried there. At music he was always enjoying it and liked to stay close to mommy.

Sarah.....well....she's not quite so easy going. She is a very good kid, but she has different sides to her. She can be so happy and so smiley. She loves to babble like Justin. And she loves to climb on mommy and daddy all day long. She is a delight. But...not as easy going as Justin.
- This week, Sarah and I spent about 30 minutes playing with a V-Tech toy. She loved it. She kept pressing the buttons and playing peek-a-boo with one of the sliding animals. But, she also kept screaming like she was in agony. When she is sad or upset, she SCREAMS! Why the crying? She was furious that the toy wasn't doing exactly what she wanted it to do. And she was so mad that she couldn't hold the toy the way she wanted to hold it. It was amazing to watch her like that.
- Music class. Last week she was happy and ventured right off of my lap and played. This week? Not even close. She wanted to be with mommy the whole time. And she screamed like crazy every time I tried to stand up or sit. She had horrible seperation anxiety. And her teething agony kept her up a lot the night before. She was just not a happy camper at all.
- Playgroup. She gets so upset when the babies go near her. She doesn't want them touching her. Which really cracks me up. Sarah lets her brother maul her all day and never says a word. So, either she thinks this is something only Justin should do, or she is just wanting a break from it. Hard to tell. But she cries at playgroup a lot. Sarah is Ms Sensitive and a drama queen in the making. Today she was fine and then just started crying. Every mom turned to see if someone hurt Sarah. What we saw was Sarah all by herself, apparently mad at the toy she had been playing with. Very dramatic.

Amazing that kids can be so different from one another.

I am expecting Sarah to give me a lot more trouble than Justin ever did. So, my goal is to make sure she is dressed cute while she's doing this. LMAO

Her smile...

Lately, this is what you get when you ask Sarah for a smile....

The latest from around these parts

Justin is starting to show some more interest in the potty. I see some light in the future! We got Potty Power (dvd) on Monday and he talks about it a lot. And each of the past 3 days he has asked to go potty while we are out - once at My Gym on Thurs morning, once Friday at lunch at Friendly's and again at The Golden Corral tonight. Amazing. We'll see if this leads us to the land of underwear by September! Too bad he still doesn't care when he's wet. Ugh!

This was our first week with Daddy home for the summer. The kids are spoiled already. We went to the carousel twice and to Hoffman's, our local playland. Justin is having a great time. We really needed to get out though, as all it has done is rain. Last night was the first good weather day we had, so we went to Hoffman's. Justin is now a big boy! I am amazed! He went on so many rides and I can't believe it. It seems so strange to see him so big. Justin has always been such a scared boy. He was scared to death of the boat, the lawmover, the pool, the sprinkler, etc. And now he was going on the kiddie ferris wheel by himself. Holy cow! He really is growing up. He had the time of his life. We were so happy.

Today we went to the camp for the day. It was a gourgeous day and it was nice to spend some time outside. We couldn't go on the boat though. The dock isn't safe right now, as the lake is flooded from all this rain. And the water was too rough anyway with all the wind. But we sat outside and played with the kids and had a great day. Then we went to dinner and the carousel in the park. We even took a long walk in the park. Justin was so happy when I told him to just run. LOL

Sarah had a bad week sleeping-wise, or should I say not-sleeping-wise? Between Tues and Thurs, she lost 11 hours of sleep. She would just sit in her crib crying. We think it was just teething. Hell. Pure hell. I switched from Tylonol to Motrin. Hope it's helping. My poor baby girl!
