Some big firsts going on around here

Justin ...

Justin became a deep end swimmer! I am still in shock myself, but he finally stopped thinking that he was going to sink if I let go of him and he learned to tread water. He loves it!

Sarah ...

on July 4th, she rold ethe Carousel by herself for the first time ever! We were at Hoffmans and instead of having me hold onto her, as she usually wanted, she agreed to let me sit next to her. (We had gone a couple weeks before that and I stood next to her and proved to her that I wasn't holding her anymore and that she could hold on by herself.) After one trip around with me on the horse next to her, she had me stand outside and she rode by herself!!!

Too much to remember

There are so many things this summer that I wish I could blog to remember but I don't and then I forget it all. Bummer.

Sarah is now swimming so much better. So swimmies. But only her head is up. Her body and legs are still so far down. But she is doing it. And she loves it.

Both kids got to do Lazer Tag for the first time this summer and they loved it!

Sarah, of course, has always hated the sprinkler. We went to Ciera's party yesterday which was a pool party and it had a lot of sprinklers and a fun water slide. At first she was so nervous and didn't look like she was going to go do any of the stuff. But eventually she tried it all and loved it! I was so proud of her!

Justin watched Ed and Chris Budd fish today and now he wants a fishing pole. Yikes.

Today we had the Budds and Washocks up to my parents to swim. At the end of the day Sarah and Andrea had gotten dressed and gone downstairs to play with the toys. When they came back outside, (and it was almost time to leave), Sarah saw that Kiersten, Ashley and Justin were still in the pool. She asked me to put on her suit. I said "no, it's almost time to go home." She looked at me "I know where my suit is and I am getting it!" Well!!! A few minutes later she came out of the house and I nearly died. We all nearly died. She had put the suit on backwards. And with most suits it might not matter, but this suit had cut-outs in the back. Thus, her nipples both showed. OMG! None of us could stop laughing. She had no idea and just marched right over to the pool and got in. I did feel bad later though b/c she was upset that people were laughing at her. I explained that she had her suit on wrong, etc. She was all sad and said she couldn't get it on the other way. (But, really, she still pulls up she shorts wrong most of the time too. Dressing is just not her thing yet.) Anyway - poor girl - she showed us alright!

I guess we won't be going canoing anytime soon.
While we were in Maine, Mick asked us if we could all go canoing in the back streams next summer.
Sarah's answer: (with lots of anger)
Why? That's boring? You just sit there and do nothing. Why would anyone want to go canoing? There's nothing to do?
She went on and on.
And, funnier yet, I was telling the story to my mom and Ian and Ian's response was "she's right. It is boring. I hate it. There's nothing to do!" lol

One of Justin's favorite things in Maine this year was playing in the tide pools. The beach had changed shape this year and the tide pools were huge. He loved playing in them and actually got to play with his boat. He even convinced Grampy to buy a new boat for both him and Sarah.

But, of course, his favorite thing was jumping the waves. He just loves to go out into the waves. He would hold my hand and jump with me. And as he was laughing and smiling, he'd yell to me "This is so much more fun than playing in the hotel room!" lol Poor kid - everytime we were in the room, he was content to stay there and play. Then he'd get out and have a blast.

Sarah made a friend our last full day in Maine. Her name was Gabi. We had been talking to her mom all week but this was the first time Sarah and her had gotten to play. They made sandcastles, boats, and used the boogie boards together. Sarah had a lot of fun. Then the rest of the trip she talked about Gabi non-stop. It was so funny.

Justin is totally into the older kid shows now. He fell in love with The Suite Life with Zack and Cody before we went to Maine. Now he wants to watch that and all the tween shows.

So many little things....

Mornings....
At the beginning of the summer, we FINALLY convinced Sarah to stop calling for us in the morning when she woke up. She will now finally get up and leave her room. But she still won't go past her door if Justin is not up. If his door is closed, she will go back into her room and wait for him. She has never come into us. So weird. But that was a HUGE step! If she hears that he is up, she will still call for him though.

Swimming....
For a little girl that wouldn't even go into the pool until last year, Sarah has now come a LONG way! We have spent a ton of time in the pool this year. It has been a HOT summer. We convinced her to get her face wet. We convinced her to jump in! That was HUGE! She loved it. We even convinced her to jump off the diving board (with a life jacket, of course.) (She actually was easier to get in than Justin. Justin wouldn't really do it and eventually Grampy just pushed him off the board. He loved it, of course!) Then the swim lessons started. She started in level 1, Justin in level 2. After 8 lessons, she just moved up to level 2 today with Justin. She is so excited. We had practiced on Thursday having her jump into Grammy's pool while holding onto the boogie board so she was prepped for that and did great. I was glad we practiced though. The first 2 times we did it she let go of the board and went right under. So it helped that she learned how to it and was ready for it today. She did great! Then today we went swimming at Grammy's all day with teh Washocks and she spent the day in the shallow end with no swimmies on. She did great trying to swim all day. (But boy did she get tired by evening!)

Bees....
My strange boy today told Andrea not to worry about the bees b/c "they won't bother you if you ignore them." really? When did his feelings change?

Teeth.....
Justin had 2 teeth pulled on June 30th. He wasn't very happy about it when he figured out what was happening. He had medicine that made him awake but forget it all.
Oh my....
about 20 minutes after he took it, he slowly lifted his arm, looking at it "woah, this is weird." The nurse picked up the phone right away "I think he's ready." lol
He was so out of it but during the procedure he cried and cried. It was so sad.
When we got home, he was still just so out of it. He couldn't hold his head up for a while. His lip was so swollen and he couldn't stand how funny it felt. It was all so weird.

And he swims!!

We made him ditch the lifejacket swimsuit about 4 days ago. And he is doing great. He's swimming. He's jumping in the pool. He's swimming under water. He's no longer afraid to put his head under water. I am so proud. I actually cried yesterday while watching him.

Meanwhile Sarah is doing great with her lifejacket. She is like a little fish now. It is so fun to watch now.
